Windows 10 End of Support

So the end of Microsoft support for the Windows 10 operating system officially ends on October 14th 2025. The time is growing nye, now Microsoft wants to promote fear uncertainty and doubt, FUD, if you will, the reality of the situation is Windows 10 will be supported with security updates for one more year through several different channels called extended support updates. Or ESU. Either you can pay $30 for up to 10 home computers for that extra year, or you can simply allow Microsoft to synchronize your data on your computer with Windows 10 to get another year, or you can use 1,000 Microsoft rewards points. They’re also special versions of Windows 10 such as the LTSC, long-term support channel that will be supported with security updates until the year 2032. But those are for Enterprise devices and don’t really apply here. So if you have a decent computer and you want to keep it going, then it’s relatively simple and straightforward to keep it going through at least one more year. If however you want to comply with Microsoft’s wishes and get a computer that is Windows 11 compatible, then there are many many options. You can of course go out and buy a new computer that already has Windows 11 installed, and if you’re signed in with a Microsoft account and you’re using OneDrive to store your desktop documents folders etc, then migrating to a new computer is really pretty painless. But if you like some people that have complicated software installations in a computer that they’ve been using for many years, it’s a bit more difficult and normally that requires a migration. And there are several ways to do this and I believe Microsoft is even adding support in Windows 11 to do this, (but I do not believe that it is done at this point in time). At Zebra Computers we routinely clone non-compliant windows 10 computers to Windows 11 compliant hardware, and then upgrade them to Windows 11. In this way all of the user settings programs files everything is saved it’s the same computer, just upgraded to a new operating system.

We have options for replacement computers we have sold a significant amount of high quality refurbished computers for this purpose, at a fraction of the price of a new high quality computer. But there are many options for purchasing a new computer and or building one from the ground up. So if you have concerns get a hold of us and we’ll make sure that everything still works.

The end of support for Windows 10 draws nigh.

End of Windows 10 Support in October 2025: What You Need to Know

Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will reach the end of support on October 14, 2025. After this date, the operating system will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support. This makes devices running Windows 10 increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats and compatibility issues over time.

Options for Users:

  1. Upgrade to Windows 11:
    • Microsoft encourages users to transition to Windows 11, which offers improved security features, a modern interface, and better support for newer hardware. Ensure your device meets the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11 before upgrading. In fact Microsoft has made it quite insistent to users with supported computers to upgrade now!
  2. Purchase a New Device:
    • If your current device is incompatible with Windows 11, consider buying a new PC that comes pre-installed with Windows 11. Or upgrade your current system to accomodate the new technological requirements. We have the recipe to migrate older versions of Windows to new hardware that is compliant for Windows 11.
  3. Switch to an Alternative OS:
    • Users seeking non-Windows options can explore Linux distributions or macOS (if switching to Apple hardware).
  4. Continue Using Windows 10 (Not Recommended):
    • While it is technically possible to keep using Windows 10 after support ends, doing so is risky as it exposes your system to potential security vulnerabilities and lack of support for new software. Microsoft is offering one more year of support for $30 a computer. Also Opatch offers silver bullet patches for vulnerabilities, starting at a free tier; they don’t even need to restart the computer to apply their patches in most cases.

Key Takeaway:

To ensure a secure and seamless computing experience, plan your migration strategy well before October 2025. Evaluate your current hardware, explore available options, and transition to an updated operating system to stay protected and productive.
